Morrisons trims petrol prices by a further 2p

MORRISONS today announced a further cut in the price of fuel, taking the supermarket's unleaded petrol to 97.9p a litre and its diesel to 109.9p.

Today's 2p cut comes five days after Morrisons had announced an earlier reduction in the price of fuel.

Marc Bolland, Morrisons chief executive, said: "We're leading the market again with prices under 98p a litre. Yet again, this shows our commitment to giving great value to all our customers whether they're doing their weekly shop at Morrisons or filling up their cars at our forecourts." Yesterday, as wholesale gas and oil costs declined, Gordon Brown called on energy firms to pass on the saving by slashing fuel bills.

Last week, he had insisted that falling oil prices should be reflected at the petrol pumps.

Writing in The People newspaper, the Prime Minister said: "Now that global oil and gas prices are falling, we will demand that energy companies pass on these cuts to their customers as price reductions as soon as possible."

The cost of oil has fallen to less than half its $147-a-barrel high in July.

This has helped wholesale gas prices to slump by about 20 per cent from record levels in the summer.
