Mistress is evicted after court battle

A millionaire racehorse trainer today won the right to evict his former mistress from a second home.

Glory Anne Clibbery, who uses a wheelchair, has been ordered out of the £1.5 million Newmarket property by her ex-lover, Ivan Allan.

She has already been evicted from a Mayfair flat overlooking Green Park after the end of their 15-year affair.

Today Mr Justice Blackburne ruled Mr Allan was entitled to throw out Miss Clibbery again four years after their acrimonious break-up.

He also decided she must pay damages which could amount to £100,000 and which will be determined at a later hearing.

Miss Clibbery has six weeks to leave The Gables, which she shares with her mother, but her lawyers are expected to apply to the Appeal Court for a stay. The house is set in three acres of gardens and backs on the gallops where racehorses exercise.

Now 51, Miss Clibbery had arrived at the High Court for the week-long hearing earlier this month in a wheelchair pushed by her mother Peggy, 78.

She has had her left leg amputated below the knee because high blood pressure and kidney damage created artery problems.

The Canadian-born actress and casting agent blamed the stress of the legal battle for the collapse of her health.

Mr Allan, 63, who owned St Leger winner Comanche Run, retired as a trainer earlier this year.

He has described his relationship with Miss Clibbery as merely a business arrangement and told the court at previous hearings: "I paid her to be at my disposal, in particular for sexual activity."

Miss Clibbery said: "Ivan has portrayed me as little more than a prostitute. But we were involved for 15 years in what I considered to be a loving relationship."

Her mother said Mr Allan had promised in 1987 that she could live at the Newmarket home for as long as she liked, but the judge ruled that Mr Allan's company, Century (UK) Ltd SA, was entitled to a possession order and damages against both Miss Clibbery and her mother.

The judge said he was unwilling to calculate the size of the damages, but pointed out that he had been told Mrs Clibbery should have vacated The Gables by the end of 2002 and that, when the house had been rented out as long ago as 1991, the tenants were paying £2,000 a month.

Mr Allan has said he has already paid substantial amounts of money to his former girlfriend and her mother.

His lawyers said they would be making no comment immediately after the ruling.

Miss Clibbery and her mother were not in court today.
