McCartneys' baby fears

Heather Mills McCartney spoke for the first time today about how she and Sir Paul McCartney wept when they learned she was pregnant - as they believed she was unable to conceive.

Lady McCartney, speaking on a US chat show, told how two previous ectopic pregnancies and other fertility problems had left her and her husband convinced she would never have a child.

"I went upstairs and he was in a meeting. And I kept walking in and out of the meeting, because I had done the test and it was positive," she explained.

"And he kept looking at me, thinking, 'She's just not normally like this.' And I was going, 'Are you finished yet? Are you finished yet?

"And then he came out and I showed him the test and he just went, 'Oh,' and we both started crying and it was just a miracle."

A vibrant Heather, 35, also said in a candid interview with veteran news host, Larry King, that the couple plan to keep the sex of the baby secret until the birth.

"We know what it is and we know the name, because I don't like calling it 'it' every day," she said. "But we just decided one little secret, because if the rest of the world knows what we're going to have. . .

"We know everything. But we ain't going to tell you, Larry!" she joked.

The former model, wearing a bright green T-shirt, also once again denied rumours of a rift with her husband's adult children, including designer Stella.

"She's lovely, very nice, very clever, a great designer," she said. Stella's wedding in Scotland was "amazing", "a perfect, perfect weekend".

Lady McCartney described Sir Paul's first wife, Linda, who died of cancer in 1998, as being good for Sir Paul. "I think all women mould men and she helped make him into a wonderful guy," she said. During her appearance on 'CNN's Larry King show, Lady McCartney - who is in the US with her husband as part of a charity drive for their Adopt A Minefield charity - discussed the issue of artificial limbs.

She also backed up her husband's version of the events surrounding a scuffle with Evening Standard photographer Kevin Wheal at the David Blaine starvation stunt on Friday.

"I'm having a girls' night out and he's on sort of a stag night number 15, we call it now," she recalled. "And they had magicians at his evening and he said, 'Let's go and see David Blaine.'

"So he popped down to see David Blaine, and they stood miles away. And his press guy [publicist Geoff Baker] stupidly told the press that he was over there. And he didn't know anything about it, and he saw the press coming towards him.

"His press guy didn't mean any harm, but it was a bit naïve," she added. Lady McCartney said she could not see what all the fuss was about.

"His people tried to stop the paparazzi, but Paul just got in his car and went. But it was front-page headlines two days later. I mean, what does that say about the state of the world with all the wars and all the terror that's going on and the good deeds being done? They want to talk about that on the front page - I mean, it's scary."
