McCanns will be cleared and want all Maddy files

Kate and Gerry McCann will demand complete access to police files when they are finally cleared on Monday of any involvement in the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine.

The couple want their own team of private investigators to read through all the evidence gathered by Portuguese detectives in the search for clues to the whereabouts of the missing girl.

Madeleine, then aged three, vanished from her family's apartment in the holiday resort of Praia da Luz on 3 May last year while her parents and their friends ate at a nearby tapas bar. They were named official suspects - or arguidos - last September but will be finally cleared of any involvement in an announcement to be made by Portugal's attorney general in Lisbon. The only other suspect in the case, Robert Murat, will also have his official suspect status lifted.

Privately, lawyers acting for the McCanns, both 40 and both doctors from Rothley in Leicestershire, have been told they will receive only a limited number of files when they are cleared. They will demand all the evidence as they again step up the search for Madeleine.
