Malaria cases at record high

A major warning over malaria cases in London was issued today. New figures show infection is at an all-time high, with 62 per cent of malaria victims concentrated in the capital.

Experts accuse holidaymakers of ignoring the potentially fatal disease, and call for a government push to drive home the risks.

Researchers found 65 per cent of cases occur after visits to friends and family in malarial areas.

Dr George Kassianos, of the Royal College of General Practitioners, said people "seem to think they are somehow immune" because they grew up in a disease zone.
