However, for Mr Bayley, at least, M&S has still got a lot to learn. He said: "While one so admires the energy that has gone into the Lifestore, I wonder if it would have been better for the customer if they had restricted the choice a little - there is a lack of consistency. It is like one of those restaurants with impossibly long menus. You just can't help feeling that not everything on it can be good. The whole thing reminds me of an M&S ready meal - superficially impressive but fundamentally unsatisfying."
