Liz, her figure, and £1m diamonds

It was the night Liz Hurley returned to the public eye ... but she was surprised to find she did not attract all the attention.

Miss Hurley, 36, turned up at a charity gala two months after the birth of her son Damian and revealed that she has already regained her amazing figure.

She wore a striking white dress and jewellery valued at an estimated £1million. But competing for glances was Cherie Blair in a dazzling necklace topping off an elegant black dress.

Miss Hurley's dress, complete with her trademark plunging neckline, was created by designer Angel Sanchez, while her jewellery included a £500,000 Roberget link bracelet watch with 100 carats of diamond, four diamond stud earrings worth £130,000 and a £250,000 19-carat diamond ring. Unlike Mrs Blair, the model-turned-actress wore nothing around her neck.

The pair were at the Grosvenor House hotel for a gala dinner to launch its annual art fair and raise money for KIDS, a charity to help disabled children.

The event came amid claims that Miss Hurley has dropped her fight for child support from millionaire film producer Steve Bing, whom she alleges is the father of her baby. Miss Hurley has decided she does not want to put herself and Damian through a difficult legal battle over money.

A friend of Miss Hurley told US Weekly magazine: "She doesn't want anything from him any more."

The actress, who arrived at the event hand in hand with Sir Elton John's partner David Furnish, refused to comment on the report.

Mr Bing, who is heir to a £400 million property empire, would be liable for £40,000 a month in child maintenance payments under Californian law if he was proved to be the father, which he denies.

He has claimed she had other partners during the relationship, leading to speculation that Friends star Matthew Perry is Damian's father.

But Miss Hurley intends to continue her fight to prove Mr Bing is the father of her son. Her spokesman said: "Liz is still willing to take part in DNA tests."

Another jilted mother, Will Carling's former fiancée Ali Cockayne, was at the event, along with Princess Diana's close friend Rosa Monckton, Bob Geldof, Ivana Trump and actor Richard E Grant.
