Kilroy-Silk faces UKIP loyalty test

Robert Kilroy-Silk was today warned he could be expelled from the UK Independence Party if he continues with his leadership bid.

The former TV presenter was facing a "loyalty test" as he met fellow MEPs in Brussels for a showdown over who should head the anti-EU party.

Mr Kilroy-Silk's rapid emergence as UKIP's media star will be over unless he agrees current leader Roger Knapman will lead it into the general election. A YouGov poll in the East Midlands, where Mr Kilroy-Silk wants to be an MP, today suggests 11 per cent of voters would be more likely to support UKIP if he was candidate but 24 per cent would be less likely to.
