Kilroy launches his new party to rival UKIP

Robert Kilroy-Silk was today preparing to launch his new political party.

The former chat show host will call the group Veritas, the Latin for "truth". He decided to form the new party after becoming disillusioned with the UK Independence Party.

He is widely credited with helping UKIP win 12 seats at the European Parliament before quitting following a failed leadership bid.

He said: "We are the straighttalking party. People are fed-up with the old parties and lies and deception. They are fed-up with being ignored. They want politicians who will tell them the truth, talk straight and listen to what they say."

London Assembly member Damian Hockney has already quit UKIP for Veritas. Other supporters are expected to join Mr Kilroy-Silk at the launch in central London.
