One of them is a 42-year-old Algerian known as Z who came to Britain in 1992 on a visitor visa and overstayed. He was arrested in London in 1997 on terrorism and fraud charges. He later admitted leading a London group of the GIA Algerian Islamic extremist organisation, which had links with al Qaeda.
