Jeremy Vine 'stalker' had a 'Harry Met Sally' moment over Eric Pickles

The woman accused of stalking BBC presenter Jeremy Vine is said to have been thrown out of a meeting after being overcome with excitement about Tory minister Eric Pickles.

Alida O'Reilly, 28, was reportedly fixated on senior Tories including the Prime Minister and has posted photos of herself with several - including Defence Secretary Liam Fox - online.

The charity campaigner's "thing" for Mr Pickles, now Communities Secretary, led to a "Harry Met Sally" scene as she waited for him to appear at a youth meeting last year, a source claimed. "She started writhing in her chair saying: 'Oooh, Eric'," a party volunteer said. "It was very disconcerting."

O'Reilly was escorted from the meeting at the Old Bank of England in central London before Mr Pickles arrived.

Her fixation on David Cameron reportedly led to police officers and security officials at the House of Commons being told to be vigilant if she ever appeared at Westminster.

O'Reilly, from Earlsfield, was previously found guilty of conducting a five-month campaign of harassment against two radio presenters.

Another source told the London Spin political blog: "We arrived to find this funny-looking girl sat among the chairs and tables on her own. She rocked back and forth on her chair with a slight grin and a faint twinkle in her eyes." When O'Reilly heard that Mr Pickles would be addressing the audience, she was to said to have started rubbing her legs and licking her lips.

Earlier this week Vine told how he was regularly followed by O'Reilly, who changed her name to "Jackie Vine" and posted a mocked-up photo of the pair together on her MySpace page.

The single mother's bizarre behaviour was said to include repeatedly trailing him to the Tube station as he headed home and staring through the window of a sandwich bar he visited.

"Obviously she has got some serious problems and I hope she sorts them out," the presenter said. "I was getting to the point where I would come out of Radio 2 and think, 'Is this woman out there and if I go and have a sandwich is she going to follow me and stand outside the sandwich bar staring in?' It was not very pleasant."

A hearing on Monday where O'Reilly was due to be served with a restraining order relating to Vine was adjourned for psychiatric reports.
