IP2IPO invests in medical technology

INTELLECTUAL property company IP2IPO Group snapped up a 43.6% stake in Oxford Medical Diagnostics for an undisclosed sum today.

The investment in OMD represents IP2IPO‘s first stake in a business spun out from Oxford University. The venture emerged from the university‘s chemistry department.

IP2IPO's stake in the business consists of a 16.1% interest received as a result of its long-term agreement with the Oxford University and a 27.5% based on a direct investment.

Oxford Medical Diagnostics is developing laser-based techniques for the analysis of gases.

The company is developing a platform for detecting minute quantities of markers in exhaled breath in order to diagnose disease without the need for surgical intervention.

Today‘s investment is the second by IP2IPO in as many weeks. A fortnight ago the company picked up a 28.8% stake in a company spun out from the University of Southampton. Ilika Technologies, is a chemical technology company that can synthesise large numbers of new materials and has numerous applications including several in the pharmaceuticals industry.

IP2IPO floated on the Alternative Investment Marketlate last year and specialises in commercialising university research projects via its relationships with numerous academic organisations, including Oxford University.
