Hundreds of BA staff to quit Gatwick

Hundreds of British Airways staff could be transferred from Gatwick Airport as the company attempts to cut costs by £70 million.

Union leaders are "very concerned" by BA plans to combine short- and long-haul operations where there are two separate structures for cabin crews and management.

There are also fears that BA could hand control over flights at Gatwick to a subsidiary company. Cabin crews could be moved to Heathrow, offered voluntary redundancy or switched to other duties. BA sources say up to 1,100 jobs at Gatwick could be affected.
