? There are now 4.9 million "wealthy" individuals in Europe, who collectively have assets of e3.3 trillion (£2.03 trillion), a report claimed today. The number of high-net-worth individuals, people who have more than e30,000 (£18,471) worth of liquid assets, has increased by about 19 per cent a year between 1997 and 2001. Business information group Datamonitor said the increase was due to sustained economic growth, rising house prices, the sale and flotation of family firms, buoyant stock markets and the technology boom.
