The average time a home takes to sell is now 73 days, compared with 54 at this time last year. Rightmove is owned by Countrywide, Britain's biggest estate agent chain, together with Connells, Halifax Bank of Scotland and Royal & Sun Alliance.
A poll for the Housebuilders Federation has revealed big fears about property costs. The YouGov survey of 2,644 owner-occupiers and tenants found 95% thought trying to buy a first home was financially difficult and that 21% of first-time buyers had help raising the deposit from a relative.
Rob Ashmead, chief executive of the Federation, said: 'The next Government must focus on increasing supply, not subsidising demand, if a long-term solution is to be secured.'
