Hospital bosses top pay list

Four of the top 10 highest-paid hospital bosses are working in London, a report out today shows.

Derek Smith, chief executive of Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust, tops the list with a total pay packet worth £212,500 last year.

He is followed by Dr Jonathan Michael at Guy's and St Thomas' on £192,000, Paul White at Barts and the London on £182,500 and Dr Robert Naylor at University College London Hospital on £167,500.

They are all on packages significantly higher than the national average of £107,000.
