Hopes dashed for baby case women

Most of the women convicted of murdering their babies on the evidence of Professor Sir Roy Meadow will not have their cases referred to the Court of Appeal.

In a review of more than 100 cases, Attorney General Lord Goldsmith has found only a handful warrant reinvestigation. Campaigners had expected scores of women to be freed. The review was ordered after several high-profile cases in which paediatrician Professor Meadow's evidence was discredited. Angela Cannings and Sally Clark were among those whose convictions were overturned on appeal.
