Gwyneth the true Londoner

It's official. Gwyneth Paltrow is now a true Londoner. On the face of it, the star of Shakespeare in Love is not like the rest of us. She lives in Belgravia, has just got married to Coldplay's Chris Martin and has an Oscar on her mantelpiece.

But even big-name Hollywood stars have the same day-to-day problems as the rest of us, it seems.

Paltrow, 31, one of a number of music and movie stars - most notably Madonna - who have decided to make London their home, has been airing her views on life in the capital.

Among the things which get her down are traffic wardens, petrol prices and the weather... just like the rest of us. She is quoted today as telling a Time Out interviewer: "The parking wardens are very officious. You can't park illegally even for two seconds."

Amazingly for a woman who thinks nothing of employing a chauffeur on £200-plus a day to ferry her macrobiotic lunch from her flat to Elstree Studios every day while she was shooting Proof with Sir Anthony Hopkins, she is also rather concerned about the level of parking fines. "I think they are inordinately high," she said. "And the price of petrol is exorbitant."

And no, she does not like the weather. "There's something that happens when it's very cold and grey. Sometimes it gets to be wearing, especially if - like me - you lived in California till you were 10."

But she added: "Then when the weather breaks you think, 'This is the most fascinating city in the world.'"

It has now become something of a regular occurrence for overseas stars to voice their opinions - usually favourable - on London. Matrix star Monica Bellucci, who has moved here, said recently: "I love London, it's a beautiful bridge between Europe and America."

Paltrow's affection for London seems genuine enough, however: she was spotted earlier this year househunting in Belsize Park.

Ten days ago she married Martin in a secret ceremony in Santa Barbara and the couple are expecting their first baby in five months.
