Guantanamo Bay Britons set for 'trial'

The four Britons still held by the US in the Guantanamo Bay detention centre will face "backdoor trials" within a month, according to military papers.

The documents, seen by The Guardian, reveal how they will have limited rights to call witnesses when they appear before the American military officers hearing their cases. They will have no lawyer and hearsay evidence will be used.

The decision comes despite US assurances that the Britons would not face military commissions. Gitanjail Gutirrez, lawyer for two of the Britons, is in London to pressure the Government. Brent Mickum, who represents another of the Britons, said: "They are backdoor trials."
