Grace puts on floor show to remember

It was the night Grace Jones stole the show. The singer, surprise performer at a tribute to milliner Philip Treacy, ended up in a heap on the floor during her routine - but like the star she is, she just kept on singing.

Jones accidentally became the highlight of the star-studded event at the Victoria & Albert Museum last night when she tangled with a chair and went sprawling down the catwalk.

Wearing high heels and a gold dress, Jones was performing a Cabaret-style number, kicking her legs over the chair, when disaster struck. "She just went over backwards, she was all over the floor," said photographer Dave Benett. "She was laughing, but kept on singing while lying on the floor, and finally asked Boy George to help her up." An array of famous names last night paid tribute to the world's most famous hat-maker, who was being honoured by Moet et Chandon for his services to fashion.

"Strictly Glamour" said the invitation sent out to a select handful of Treacy's favourite clients and friends - and they responded in kind. Jemma Kidd chose an elegant dress by Catherine Walker, Darcey Bussell a lovely creation by Chanel and Lisa Barbuscia a sexy number by Elie Saab. After a lavish meal, guests were treated to a catwalk show featuring some of Treacy's latest innovations. Sculptural and majestic, they emphasised why the Irishman deserves to be the first milliner in 80 years to be invited to show on the prestigious Paris couture schedule.
