Girl has school fees paid by anonymous donor after a leaflet appeal

A girl who hand-delivered leaflets asking for sponsorship to attend a private school - after learning she could not get a bursary - has had her first year's fees paid by an anonymous donor.

Aliyah Tribak, 11, passed the entrance exams for leading London independent girls' school Queen's College but her unemployed mother, Nadia, discovered she had made a mistake with the bursary papers and the family would have to pay the £14,850-a-year fees.

Her daughter then wrote an appeal asking for sponsors and delivered it by scooter. Now the girl from Tower Hamlets has started school. She said: "We have leaflets through the door every day so I thought I should do them myself."
