German woman found stabbed to death

Police are today trying to unravel the "mysterious" murder of a German woman found stabbed in St Albans.

The body of the victim, in her midforties, was discovered in a pool of blood on wasteland by a pensioner and his son who had been trimming hedgerows adjoining their garden. A knife protruded from her chest

The woman flew into Heathrow from Hamburg on Saturday 23 August at
8.30am and may have been looking for work as a housekeeper. She was seen shopping in St Albans that afternoon.

Five days later her body was found in Orient Close.

She was 5ft 4in, of medium-large build, had long brown hair and was wearing an unusual pair of thick white clogs. She is thought to have spoken with a strong German accent.
