Gatecrasher fiasco exposed

The full scale of the security fiasco surrounding Prince William's 21st birthday party can be revealed today.

A police inquiry into how a comedian gatecrashed the party at Windsor Castle is expected to list a catalogue of errors.

At least nine police officers are under investigation after self-styled comedy terrorist Aaron Barschak bluffed his way into the castle dressed as Osama bin Laden in a pink ball gown.

Barschak, 37, was allowed to jump on stage, sing a song and kiss Prince William on both cheeks before the alarm was raised.

Chief Inspector Mark Goddard, head of Royalty Protection at Windsor, is thought to be the first casualty of the fiasco. He has been moved to other duties after requesting to go himself.

The City of London police report into the fiasco is expected to say that:

One source said: "The failure was in the outer security perimeter. The alarms did go off but Barschak managed to climb a tree and then three walls to get into a secure area of the castle."

Commander Peter Loughborough, head of Scotland Yard's Royalty Protection Department, is among those under pressure to resign. Royalty Protection officer Nigel Haspineall, 50, who let Barshak into the most secure part of the castle, is also fighting to keep his job.
