Arrrr-ahahahaha-arrrrr! Poor old Tarzan finds out that there are strange men in the jungle. Not strange ha ha, strange dangerous. Your job is to make your way through 15 levels of exploratory challenges - rescuing animals that have been trapped by an evil explorer and collecting the rolls of film he has dropped on his way round.

You'll swing on vines, surf along logs and climb the surrounding plantlife. These levels are then split up with water-based sections that you will either have to surf through or water-ski around. Each level throws up dangerous obstacles to get over or around, ranging from whirlpools and crocodiles to human enemies.

And if the going gets too tough you can call upon your hairy friends (no, not you Nigel) the monkeys by using that inevitable Tarzan yodel - don't worry, I'm not going to do it again. Animal magic.

Devil May Cry

One of the mostly eagerly anticipated games of the year, Devil May Cry is made by the same team who created the Resident Evil series. This is a bit more gothic, with a pistol-packing, sword-slinging demon hunter/private investigator (hey, it's a Japanese game. When do they ever make sense?) hacking his way through all manner of devilish spooks and solving the odd puzzle along the way.

Remember when you first saw the graphics of Resident Evil 1? Didn't they look great? Well, DMC is another leap forward, dazzling to behold, but even better, with spectacular playability. Its fast, energetic gameplay will keep you holed up for days.

So, phone in sick (don't get someone else to do it for you, Harriet, that's so lame) and be prepared to be up to your ears in demonic nonsense. I do have one small quibble, after that burst of superlatives. The game ain't that long. But look on the bright side, at least you won't need a whole week off work.
