It's the most whacked-out game for quite a few years, but Rez is seriously fun. To describe it as a shooting game doesn't even touch the surface. This is an aural journey, man. It's all about sensations. You fly through an insane, computer-generated landscape that looks like a cross between Tron and that final trippy sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey, shooting at strange objects around you. Each level (there are six) looks different, with different 'things' to shoot at. Techno pulsates through the game and it's a core ingredient: your shooting is part of the beat of the music. Geddit? No, nor did I initially, until I realised that the object of the game is to sit back and enjoy it, rather than simply reach the end. Difficult to describe, you're going to have to trust me when I say this is one of the best games I've ever played. Full of wonder and imagination, Rez gives gaming a whole new dimension. (NP)
