British games company Eidos, have been rummaging around in Japan, finding some leftfield gems for their new label, Fresh Games. The first two, Mr Moskeeto and Mad Maestro! give a glimpse into just what kind of gaming variation there is to be found in the East. In Mr Moskeeto you get to be a mosquito trapped in a Japanese family's home, where you suck blood from the household. It starts off nice and easy, but after a couple of levels there's insectides and a very wary family to make things much more difficult. Although graphically it doesn't push any boundaries, the gameplay is absurdly simple to pick up. And the background music is your classic Seventies porn soundtrack, which probably signifies something, but I've no idea what. You play in third person, which can occasionally go wrong when the camera seems to either go through walls or lose your bug altogether. And the game's a tad short. But it is great fun and a genuinely refreshing change from the norm. (NP)
