Galloway's party in poll challenge

The first official challenge to the general election result was revealed today.

A candidate from George Galloway's Respect Party has sent a petition to the High Court questioning the victory of Labour's Roger Godsiff in Birmingham Sparkbrook and Small Heath.

Salma Yaqoob, who cut Mr Godsiff 's majority from 16,246 to 3,289 - believes result was skewed by postal vote fraud. The constituency includes Bordesley Green, where Labour councillors were found guilty of electoral breaches after last year's Birmingham City Council elections. The challenge could lead to a re-run of the poll.
