She is a former heroin addict who turned her life round to become a TV presenter. Yesterday, Davina McCall proved her transformation was truly complete - by being voted women's No.1 role model.

A quarter of 10,000 women polled said the 35-year-old was Britain's most 'amazing woman'. The Big Brother presenter beat the likes of MP Mo Mowlam and JK Rowling. Runner-up Paula Radcliffe was second with 23 per cent, according to handbag.com.

Psychologist Christine Webber said: 'Most of us will never meet any of these exceptional females but we feel we know them. They have oodles of 'get up and go', which is very attractive.'
