Free flights deal heralds price war

A new price war was expected to break out today among low-cost airlines after Ryanair announced it was giving away two million free flights.

In a bid to secure customers over main rival easyJet, it is offering free flights on more than 130 routes around Europe until
midnight on Monday.

Analysts say the move is likely to lead to more cut-price deals.

Ryanair last month saw its first quarter net profits climb to a record £30.8 million.
