Five years for embassy driver's son who raped girl, 16, in park

The adopted son of a Mongolian Embassy chauffeur who dragged a teenage girl into a Royal Park before repeatedly raping her was locked up for five and a half years today.

Javkhlanbayar Gantumur, 18, admitted subjecting his 16-year-old victim to the hour-long ordeal in Kensington Gardens.

She had been chatting to her boyfriend on the phone when she was grabbed - and he listened as Gantumur threatened her with a knife.

The Mongolian tried to escape justice by claiming diplomatic immunity but Mongolian Embassy officials waived the right. He admitted-one count of rape at Southwark crown court today.

Gantumur targeted the teenager as she stood at a bus stop just outside the park in the early hours of 18 January this year.

He grabbed her from behind as she looked at a bus timetable and chatted on the phone, demanding: "Give me your phone now. I have a bloody knife. Give me your bags."

He pushed her up against the busstop, holding down both of her arms, and demanded a kiss. She refused, until she felt a knife at her neck. Gantumur-then made her climb the fence and go to a secluded part of the park with him. There, he stripped her before raping her. He walked her out the park after an hour and fled.

Gantumur, of Kensington Court, was arrested two days after the attack as his DNA had been taken 13 days earlier when he was arrested for fighting.

Jailing him, Judge Geoffrey Rivlin QC said: "The damage that you did to this girl on that night by raping her was very substantial."

Gantumur's visa will have expired after his sentence and he will leave the country.
