First picture of stabbed man

This is the first picture of Simon Breed, the father-of-two stabbed to death as he arrived home after orchestra practice.

Mr Breed, 51, a builder, was attacked as he walked to his house in Wood Green, north London. He staggered to his front door where he died in the arms of his wife Diane, a deputy head teacher.

Police named Mr Breed's neighbour, Theopilos Theophilou, 34, a mental patient recently released into the community, as their main suspect after the attack last Thursday.

He was arrested yesterday in Hyde Park. Friends revealed that Mr Breed's van and front door were attacked with a machete last January. Theophilou was sectioned in February last year but had been allowed to return to his family. A friend of the Breeds, John Hall, said they were not aware that Theophilou had been freed. He added: "Simon was working on the house, making noise as all building work does, and that might have triggered this off. I don't know."

A spokesman for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust would not comment on details of his case but denied it had failed to inform the Breeds that Theophilou was being released.
