Fighting the frizz

Fashions in hair come and go, but one thing remains constant. Mad Hair, as seen on Nicole Kidman recently, is never a good look.

Mad Hair is more than just curly. It's bird's-nest, it's Krystal Tipps, it's the crazy lady at the end of the lane, and it's just plain bad luck for the Hollywood types, for whom it's their hair's natural state.

Mad Hair isn't something you'd want to copy. It doesn't get taken seriously, nor does it go down well on the red carpets, which is why actresses such as Minnie Driver, Julia Roberts, Andie MacDowell and Sarah Jessica Parker rarely venture out before they've been seen to by wizards with big brushes.

They all prefer their hair ironed out, as do most women. According to my man with the straightening irons at Michaeljohn, hard, dead-straight hair is very "over", but you still need to look well groomed (the frazzled, sea-sprayed beach-babe look is strictly for Ibiza).

So, sorry girls, face it - frizz remains a dirty word.
