Fears grow in Britain for missing relatives in Haiti

Relatives of victims of the Haiti earthquake told today of their struggle to reach friends and family in the devastated country.

Thousands of Haitians living abroad were posting pictures of loved ones on internet message boards after most communication links with Haiti failed.

Nadege Attis, 31, who is studying in Glasgow, last spoke to her fiance, Thony Mazard, 32, a driver in Port-au-Prince, just hours before the earthquake struck on Tuesday.

She said: "I'll do anything it takes to get to Haiti so I can look for him. The area he was in was destroyed. I have to believe he's still alive. It's my only option."

Gaetan Soyingbe, 33, a student in Northampton, has been trying to contact his friends Arnaud Royer, 35, a human rights officer in the UN building in Port-au-Prince, and wife Anabelle, 29, a charity worker. They have two children, Margot, five and Manon, one.

Mr Soyingbe says they live in one of the worst-hit areas of the city. He added: "I'm so worried. I've seen what happened to the UN building. I'm so afraid I'll see a gruesome image on TV and it will be them."
