Father of three 'shot over broken bumper'

A man was shot in the head in front of his family because of a row over a broken car bumper, it emerged today.

Douglas Mullings, 41, was blasted with a shotgun at close range in broad daylight after an argument with a group of men in Tottenham. The father of three is today in a critical condition in hospital.

His brother-in-law Shawn Douglas said: "As far as I understand it he came out of his house and saw his car bumper bender broken off, so he approached the guy who drove into it to fix it.

"They started to argue. The guy wouldn't promise that he would get it fixed. It just blew up. Because they are a gang, every one of them started to get involved. That is what I heard.

"There was a heated exchange. Somebody else came and just shot him in the head." Mr Douglas said he did not know if Mr Mullings, a carpenter, knew the gunman. "The family are absolutely devastated. We can't really come to terms with it," he said. In the moments before the argument at about 1pm on Sunday, six men in a stolen silver Mercedes parked outside Mr Mullings's home.

As the row escalated, a red Rover pulled up and a man armed with a shotgun got out and shot Mr Mullings in front of his partner Jennifer, his sevenyearold son Eric and young daughter, before speeding off.

The gunman was short, black and in his late teens or early twenties. He wore a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

The six men, also described as black and in their late teens or early twenties, ran off along Pretoria Road.

The Rover, thought to be an M-registration, is believed to have driven off in the same direction. The Mercedes had stolen number plates, registration S356 ADJ.
