Father in dock 'for standing up to hooligans'

A businessman who tackled schoolboy yobs terrorising his neighbourhood stood in the dock himself today accused of intimidating the thugs.

Christopher Fulke-Greville was said to have threatened a 13-year-old boy following incidents spanning 14 months.

The financial adviser had snapped after residents in Addlestone, Surrey, became frightened of a gang of up to a dozen young teenagers.

A jury was told the 54-year-old former public schoolboy made two threats to the 13-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons - after hitting another youth in an earlier incident.

After his arrest, Fulke-Greville told officers the neighbourhood had been overrun by "hooligan" teenagers and the 13-yearold had frightened his family outside their home.

Reading a statement from the defendant, PC Kate Raynsford said: "He is part of a local gang, possibly the smallest chap, but with the biggest mouth. He and his gang had tried to set fire to a neighbour's van, have thrown eggs at his neighbours and have thrown bricks and stones at cars in the area. The boy is a hooligan, responsible for vandalism and trouble."

Michael Cousens, defending, told Guildford Crown Court the father-oftwo had several encounters with the boy before the alleged threats on August 25 and 27 last year.

Fulke-Greville faces two charges of intimidation, with the intention to obstruct, pervert or interfere with the course of justice. The hearing continues.
