Fashion's in the playpen

The catwalk game looked like child's play on the second day of Graduate Fashion Week.

With many of the final-year students at London College of Fashion casting their thoughts back to kindergarten for inspiration, there was no end of bright paintbox colours, scribbled prints, cute cartoon motifs - even teddy bears - as the ultra-successful college brought the day's shows to a close last night.

Ling Ling Wang's eye-popping use of colour in cartoonish prints set the upbeat note, splashing red, green and orange over everything from catsuits to padded jackets.

Hilel Tunc had also headed for the crayon box, scribbling childish doodles over oh-so-grown-up white dresses. Guneet Monga appliquéd teddy bears on the front of sweaters and scrawled girls' faces on pleated mini-skirts with similar child-like glee. Sachiyo Yokoyama went one step further, scaling up perfect little-girl party dresses to adult sizes with their saccharine charm intact.

Other stand-out collections included Elisabet Holmstrom's reindeer-print dresses and giant cat brooches and Kiren Passi's patchwork print separates and satin "quilt" capes.

But if one had to be a sure-fire award winner, I'd put my money on Wei Ling Cui's stunning collection. The star student, originally from Beijing, mixed beautifully ruffled skirts in shades of tobacco brown, stark black dresses and sheer catsuits with piles of breathtakingly beautiful silver jewellery specially made in China.
