Experts split over legal action

Royal and legal experts were divided today on whether Prince Charles should sue over the allegations against him.

The Prince must now decide what if any action to take against anyone who has made the allegations public - including the Sunday Herald in Scotland.

Historian Andrew Roberts said: "The Prince should take the longestablished route that royals have since George V and sue for libel. I don't know of a single person who believes the allegations and I don't really think the monarchy is going to be damaged." Penny Junor, Prince Charles's biographer, said her instinct was that he should not sue. "It is a hard decision," she said.

"On one hand he should get on with his work now and try to move on. But I can understand that he would want to sue so that he could make sure that nothing like this happens again."
