Doctor 'gave lover abortion poison'

A HOSPITAL consultant gave his girlfriend tea laced with drugs in an attempt to abort her pregnancy, it has been alleged.

Edward Erin, 43, had a brief extra-marital affair with Bella Prowse, 32, and is alleged to have been horrified to find out she was going to have his child.

He is said to have put methotrexate and diclofenac, both known to terminate pregnancies, into her tea at her Tulse Hill home on 2 February. Five days later he is alleged to have carried out a second poisoning attempt at his workplace, St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.

Erin was arrested a week later and charged at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court last month.

He has been suspended from his job and his case has been transferred to Inner London Crown Court for a plea hearing on 1 December.
