Dizaei probe 'flawed from the outset'

The attempt to prosecute one of Scotland Yard's most senior black officers was seriously flawed from the outset, a report has found.

Operation Helios, the investigation into allegations against Superintendent Ali Dizaei, was hampered by bureaucracy and bad decision-making, the review states. Officers were warned by the Crown Prosecution Service the techniques being used were flawed, but continued to employ them.

In documents released today, it is shown a lawyer told the Met it was in danger of contravening Mr Dizaei's human rights.
