Desperate hunt for missing twin

Fears were growing today for a 22-year-old twin who has not been seen since attending a party on New Year's Eve.

Student Sally Geeson failed to return home after going to a party at a pub in Cambridge, sparking a massive search by police.

Her distraught family from Southend have made an emotional appeal for help in finding her.

Miss Geeson, a forensic science student, was last seen at the party at the Hogshead pub in Regent Street, Cambridge.

When she failed to return to her student accommodation by 8pm on New Year's Day, her worried flatmate reported her missing to police.

Specialist search teams, assisted by a Cambridge Police force helicopter, spent yesterday searching the areas around Regent Street and Miss Geeson's home.

Officers were visiting the pub last night in the hope that someone would remember seeing her on New Year's Eve and would have information that could help trace her.

Her identical twin Julie described Sally's disappearance as totally out of character. She said: "If she ever had problems she would like to share them. She would usually phone me, talk it through, rant at me, but this is out of character. It's been too long, two days and three nights.

"She is a typical university student, very friendly, sociable. She will chat to anyone and is up for a laugh. Everyone who saw her said she was sitting in a big group around a table in the pub having a good time but perhaps someone can remember something that was said either before they went to the pub or at the pub that might have upset her.

"If anyone remembers anything, no matter how small or irrelevant they think it is it's important that they get in touch." Sally's mother Sue, an education consultant, added: "We started to ring her phone when we heard but it was on answer phone. So we called all her friends in the Southend area but they have heard nothing.

"She's a very conscientious, hard working girl. She was revising over Christmas, putting her dissertation together, planning what to do when she graduated and thinking of staying on to do further studies in medicine.

"Words can't describe what we're feeling." Miss Geeson's university friends have put up posters, pleading for help in tracing her.

Detective Inspector Tony Ixer, who is leading the search, appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen Sally over the last two days to please contact police. Her family need to know she is safe and well. Any information, no matter how small or insignificant, could help us."

She is described as white, 5ft 2ins, of slim build with curly red hair. She was wearing her glasses, a brown dress, brown high-heeled shoes and was carrying a denim bag with a brown strap.

Mr Ixer added: "I would also urge Sally herself to contact police, a member of her family or a friend to let us know she is safe and well."

Amie Gregory had last been seen with an unknown man at about

4.30am on Saturday at Kudos nightclub in the centre of Ashford, Kent.

Officers, relatives and volunteers scoured woodland yesterday and a police helicopter was also brought in.
