Depp's bad hair day

He is the epitome of a Hollywood heart-throb, famed for his good looks. But Johnny Depp shows that even a top actor used to the media spotlight can have a bad hair day.

And some might go as far as to say that the star of Edward Scissorhands, the surreal tale of a boy with blades for fingers, should get a short back and sides.

The actor showed off his long, blow-dried locks to promote his latest movie, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, when he appeared for its premiere in New York last night.

After his swashbuckling performance in Pirates Of The Caribbean, 40-year-old Depp let his hair down for his latest role.

This time he plays a casually corrupt CIA agent who keeps appearing in assorted disguises alongside Antonio Banderas, Mickey Rourke and Willem Dafoe.

Banderas, also with a new coiffed hair-do for the film, plays a gunslinger-guitarist hero nudged out of isolation by Depp's CIA agent character. Depp, who lives in Paris with partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children, admitted being surprised when he saw the film, because he did not expect to be in it so much. He said: "I thought it was like a cameo."
