Delays on Bakerloo line after shop fire

Commuters faced delays this morning after Bakerloo line services between Willesden Junction and Harrow and Wealdstone were suspended after a shop fire.

The blaze broke out at Tennessee Fried Chicken in Wembley High Road at 3.09am and London Fire Brigade only contained it at 7.09am.

The takeaway is on the ground floor of a four-storey building containing offices.

The top two floors were destroyed by the fire but as the building was empty, there were no reported injuries. Firefighters declared the walls of the shop unsafe and because it is next to Wembley Central Tube station, they warned they could collapse on to the tracks.

London Underground was advised to halt services and trains are not expected to be back to normal until this afternoon. A spokeswoman said: "It's unfortunate but there is no other option when there is a potential danger to passengers."

Virgin trains also run from Wembley and commuters faced serious problems getting to work this morning.
