Daughter's kidney saves author

The daughter of Horse Whisperer author Nicholas Evans has told how she saved his life by donating one of her kidneys.

Zoologist Lauren Evans, 29, and the best-selling novelist, 61, had successful surgery at Hammersmith Hospital this summer.

Evans suffered renal failure after eating poisonous mushrooms in 2008. His second wife Charlotte and her brother were also affected and remain on dialysis.

Evans's two sons also offered to donate their kidneys but were found not to be suitable.
His daughter told The Times her father resisted at first, and that he feels "overwhelmed" by emotion at times, but added: "I'm so happy I did it. Mainly though, there is just this quiet bond between us, the comfort of being together."
