Cycle death junction at King's Cross will be changed, says TfL

Transport for London today promised to review the dangerous King's Cross road network, following the deaths of four cyclists.

Proposals to make the roads around King's Cross station safer include restoration of two-way traffic and changes to the York Way and Grays Inn Road junction where 24-year-old student Min Joo Lee, pictured, was killed by a lorry in October. The aim is to reduce the speed of traffic that endangers "vulnerable road users".

In the past five years, cyclists Wendy Gay, Emma Foa and Madeleine Rosie Wright have been killed by lorries in this area.

Their families said the announcement is promising, but still more needs to be done.

Kenji Hirasawa, Miss Joo Lee's boyfriend, said: "This is a great first step. But I hope they continue to make changes quickly."

TfL will meet with Islington and Camden councils early in the New Year, but no major changes will be made before the Olympics.

Leon Daniels of TfL said: "Any fatal road collision is one too many. The Mayor and TfL will work night and day to reduce that number."
