Cruz uncorks a £5m deal

Actress Penelope Cruz has confirmed her spectacular earning power by signing a deal to promote Spanish sparkling wine for a reported £5 million.

Wine producer Cava Freixenet splashed out the sum for Cruz to star in a TV campaign shot in Barcelona recently. The actress will be seen partying in four different glamorous outfits, delicately balancing a flute of the wine, and engaging in flirty banter with a range of eligible men - before finally straddling the bottle of bubbly, and taking off.

Although the advert is for an exclusively Spanish market, Cruz's relationship with Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is also making her one of the most saleable commodities in the English-speaking movie world.

Since appearing with Cruise in the film Vanilla Sky, the 28-year-old has already been booked up for three Hollywood films. As such, the Cava advert will probably be her only work in her home country this year, where she is known as The Enchantress.

It has been rumoured that Cruz and Cruise will marry in a glitzy ceremony this Easter.
