Cocaine pair jailed for smuggling drugs in trousers

In the pouches sewn into these leggings is 72lb of cocaine worth £8 million which two Spanish men tried to smuggle into Britain.

Tanasu De Jesus Quevedo-Ojeda, 28, and Oliver Vidal Hernandez, 27, boarded the Black Watch cruise liner in Peru but were arrested in Southampton in March. The men were each jailed for 12 years yesterday.

The UK Border Agency said its officers "operate maximum vigilance at all our ports and airports".

Malcolm Bragg, assistant director of criminal and financial investigations for the UK Border Agency, said: "Drugs like cocaine devastate lives and communities and this sentence is a strong warning to anyone who believes drug smuggling is acceptable.
