'Choice FM DJs groped bottoms'

Managers and DJs at one of London's leading commercial radio stations have been accused of repeated sexual harassment by two women employees.

Wendy Browne-Osibo, 24, and Audrey Atkinson, 29, claim they were forced to leave Choice FM because of sustained sexual harassment.

Christine Cox of Southwark Law Centre, who represents both women, said: "If these allegations are proven, they would suggest that there is a sexist culture at the station. The alleged sexist behaviour involves more than 12 staff including directors, several DJs and other staff. I have written to the equal opportunities commission and hope they investigate Choice FM."

Ms Browne-Osibo a media studies graduate, claims that while she was working as a production assistant her bottom was slapped by one colleague and squeezed by another. She also alleges that sexist language and behaviour were widespread, including that of a DJ at the south London station who is said to have made sexual remarks and offered Ms Browne-Osibo money to expose herself.

Ms Browne-Osibo also claims a pornographic email was circulated throughout the company, as well as a picture of a naked woman who staff compared her to and which she was not allowed to remove.

She claims women were stared at and commented on so frequently that she wore a cardigan around her waist. Ms Browne-Osibo also alleges that when she did bring a complaint against a DJ and another colleague she was victimised.

She says Choice FM investigated her grievance while the men she had complained about were present. They laughed while she was in tears, Ms Browne-Osibo claims, and neither was sacked or disciplined.

Following her return from sick leave, Ms Browne-Osibo claims she was intimidated and resigned soon after.

Patrick Berry, managing director of Choice FM, said: "The case hasn't reached any conclusion yet and it would be improper to comment."
