Childminder 'shook baby to death'

A childminder killed a baby boy in her care by shaking him in frustration when he would not feed, a jury heard today.

Rebecca Wilson, 33, was tired following a late night while she was caring for five-month-old Anil Joshi on 8 January last year.

When the baby was taken to her home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, she was in her nightclothes, Liverpool Crown Court heard. At

11.20am, she called an ambulance and said Anil had "gone floppy". He was taken to hospital but died of a brain haemorrhage when doctors turned off his life support machine three days later.

Anthony Russell QC, prosecuting, said Wilson admitted shaking Anil for 30 seconds after he lost consciousness. He said she told officers: "I was worked up... I had tried some food, I had tried the bottle and all the usual things just didn't work." Wilson, a mother of two, denies manslaughter. The trial continues.
