Homes and Property | Home PageChelsea star hires guards after raidMatheus Sanchez|Finian Davern|Evening Standard13 April 2012Chelsea star Juan Sebastian Veron has brought in private security guards after an intruder threatened his children during a robbery at his house.The footballer was forced to hand over jewellery worth £60,000 after the masked attacker held a machete to his throat and told him: "I'll kill your kids if you don't."Now the 28-year-old star's £2.5 million home in Barnes is being protected round the clock by private security guards.Today a close friend of Veron revealed the robber got in through a window.The £80,000-a-week footballer and his family were in bed when a man clambered in undetected.He then brandished the machete at Veron and his family and ransacked the house before running off. A family friend visiting from Argentina, who would only give his name as Andres, was one of 11 people in the house.He said: "He got in through the window and searched through everything downstairs. Then he went upstairs and got into one bedroom at a time to speak to us, threaten us." Wayne Harley, 35, a builder from Wandsworth, was arrested on Sunday and charged with aggravated burglary.
