Chelsea star hires guards after raid

Chelsea star Juan Sebastian Veron has brought in private security guards after an intruder threatened his children during a robbery at his house.

The footballer was forced to hand over jewellery worth £60,000 after the masked attacker held a machete to his throat and told him: "I'll kill your kids if you don't."

Now the 28-year-old star's £2.5 million home in Barnes is being protected round the clock by private security guards.

Today a close friend of Veron revealed the robber got in through a window.

The £80,000-a-week footballer and his family were in bed when a man clambered in undetected.

He then brandished the machete at Veron and his family and ransacked the house before running off. A family friend visiting from Argentina, who would only give his name as Andres, was one of 11 people in the house.

He said: "He got in through the window and searched through everything downstairs. Then he went upstairs and got into one bedroom at a time to speak to us, threaten us."
