Charlotte's birthday plans

Wearing a kimono-style dress, teen singer Charlotte Church has posed for Paul McCartney's photographer daughter Mary McCartney on the eve of her 18th birthday.

The Voice of an Angel star will celebrate tomorrow with two separate parties - a lavish family get-together and a wilder affair for her tearaway friends.

For the first time she will be given access to the £16million fortune she amassed during her solo career, but she intends to live off an allowance. She said the millions would remain locked away in a trust fund until "I learn the value of money".

The star said: "I'm not getting my money - full stop.

"I don't need it, so what's the point? I might as well leave it where it is. I'm a proper home girl and I love being Welsh and living in Cardiff. My Mum's buying me a hi-fi system because I haven't got one.

"I can't drive, but I suppose I'll have to learn soon and I'd love a sky-blue Mini Cooper convertible with a rocking sound system. But I can't really see anything changing very much when I'm 18."

Tonight she plans to join girlfriends in the bars and clubs around Cardiff drinking her favourite tipple - flavoured vodka shots.

Then she will don an evening dress and host a black-tie soirée at a hotel near her home. She will be joined by her mother Maria and stepfather James, both 38, her aunts, uncles and friends of the family.

To keep away unwanted guests - notably her exboyfriend DJ Steven Johnson - guests will only be told of its whereabouts at the last minute. But Charlotte's new boyfriend, trainee hotel manager Kyle Johnson (no relation), has been invited. He has yet to meet Charlotte's mother, who is said to be concerned about the new relationship.
